Type is image, Image is Type
This assignment was an opportunity for the students to showcase themselves as an active creator who engages the larger society in which they function. The objective is to link typography with images in exciting and innovative ways by self reflecting to discover their inner strength and weaknesses through a set of reflective questions. From there, they explore ways of visualizing through three different frameworks:
1) Behavior and Actions
2) Knowledge and Skills
3) Assumptions and Beliefs
TOP: Using her grandmother as a model with some major editing in Photoshop, Karyn Tay wishes to communicate that as we age, we gain wisdom and experiences but too much emphasis has been placed on beauty on the outside instead of the inside. Hence, the tagline in hand written form reads, "Beauty is imperfection."
BOTTOM: Jeanette Lim through a mysteriously quiet background with a loud explosion of type whereby the word "Unpredictable" explodes from the left onwards tries to communicate that in life we should be ready for unpredictable and sometimes unpleasant things to happen.

Clockwise from top: Rasyida Samsudin wishes to travel the world and with the different flags that represent South America, she carefully shapes these countries into the shape of her foot to communicate the idea of her future journey.
Samantha Mary DeSilva feels that through every emotion that can seemingly tear us down, we will somehow gain enough courage and gumption to charge forward which seems like a rebirth.
Kathryn Cornell, an exchange student from Canada expresses her idea about one's uncertain future as deconstructed text arranged in a series of steps that lead to a silhouette character with the sky behind her back.
Lee Eileen's idea of one excelling is communicated through the metaphor of flying a kite to be synonymous with the saying that "sky is the limit" for us to reach and it is, in fact, an infinity.
