Developed with graphic designer, Choon Sim, these logo versions for the ICTD conference held in Singapore from May 15-18, 2015 featured the iconic Merlion, a half-lion, half mermaid which was a symbol of Singapore as the name was derived from classic Sanskrit which means "the City of Lion." The undulating waves symbolized progress which also double as a anchor point for the initials ICTD Singapore 2015. Colors on the merlion and the waves are kept minimal while four different colors are applied to each initial to create contrast between the logo and the logotype.

The interplay between background and the the various shapes that make up the head and scales of fish for the logo was a challenge to be distinguished so various options were explored to bring out the silhouette but only rendered the logo too busy and difficult to be produced, especially if printed in black and white. Subsequent versions were a more simplified version. The waves were initially part of the Merlion but was elongated and removed from the Merlion to integrate it with the rest of the logotype, creating a more consistent logo which "ties" the Merlion and text together.
